What is an example scenario in which an SMS/call from the school becomes a UCC (unsolicited commercial communication)?

SMS are typically categorised into Promotional, Transactional, and OTP. All promotional messages are scrubbed and customers who have enabled DND (Do Not Disturb) are removed from the list. However, transactional/OTP messages are not scrubbed. NextERP authorises schools to send only Transactional/OTP messages and does not authorise any promotional messages using our platform to its registered customers (students, parents, admission enquiries, alumni, etc).

If a school acquires a list of phone numbers and sends them a message (for example, soliciting admission), it will be sent by NextERP as a transactional message, and if the recipient complains, it becomes a UCC. Then the school will be required to provide proof of consent.

We have a feature where a school can upload their recipient phone numbers and send a message. Till the time the school acquires its own SMS Sender ID, we will send messages only to registered entities in the ERP (student, parent, vendor, admission enquiry). We have added a strong warning message in the compose screen as well.

Please review your school’s processes and store the proof of consent (example: enquiry book at reception with signature, time, etc.).
